CONTAINERS

We sell our fruit by containers that are measured by dry volume. These are the standard containers used in the US fresh fruit and vegetable business. It is difficult to define the amount by weight or by the number of fruit that will fit into the container.

For strawberries, we also use flats and half flats, these are boxes that are designed to hold quart boxes, but their low sides and waxed cardboard makes them great for picking more strawberries without the weight crushing the berries on the bottom.

MORE INFORMATION ON THE CONTAINERS

  • Pint: a dry pint is half of a dry quart. It is 1/64th of a bushel.

  • Quart: a dry quart, not to be confused with the liquid quart, is 1/32 of a bushel or 2 dry pints.

  • 1/2 Peck: This is a box or bag equal to four quarts or 1/8 of a bushel.

  • Peck: A peck is 1/4 of a bushel. It is a very old measurement that is rarely used outside of the US fruit industry.

  • Bushel: We do not sell fruit by the bushel, mainly because it is a large container that is heavy and unwieldy and due to the large amount of fruit, can cause damage to the fruit on the bottom. We sell fruit by the 1/2 bushel to negate this.
